The Kokoda Track Memorial Walk (including the 1000 Steps) starts at Ferntree Gully Picnic Ground, ascending a steep hill along a creek through lush rainforest. It eventually opens up into a clearing with fantastic views of Melbourne through the trees. To complete the loop, take the Lyrebird Track back to the car park.

The path is both steep and scenic, attracting fitness enthusiasts and tourists alike. However, dogs are not permitted on this walk, so please leave your pets at home.

Wally Tew Reserve Playground

Located at 1010 Burwood Highway, Ferntree Gully

This captivating play area, themed “Forest Floor,” brings bugs to life in an engaging and entertaining way. Dominating the playground are two remarkable bug sculptures: one featuring a wooden shell and metallic lattice top, accessible via external ladder or internal platforms. The other metal insect offers climbing frames and a curved wing slide.

A sandpit, equipped with a deluxe metal digger and curvy sand table, occupies the central space, bordered by rocks and logs. A spinning cone adds excitement, while a lengthy ramp boasts various amusements like wobbly walkways, climbing walls, and cubbies. Additionally, it hosts insect-shaped roofs and swings, including a birds nest swing and flying fox.

A shelter within the fenced area provides seating and a water tap, while outside, a BBQ shelter and artistic toilet block offer further amenities. Adjacent features include a rotunda, grassy area, and nearby oval for added enjoyment.

Churchill National Park
