This is a really good walk if you want to see the city of Melbourne from a distance, on a nice sunny day. I have seen kangaroos walking along the track off in the distance. On the weekends it does get busy because the entrance to the walks is on a busy highway, there is only a small area to park that is right opposite the entrance then people park on the side of the road. Be carful when opening your car door to get out as there isn’t a lot of room between the car and road.

The park has limited parking, no restrooms, and is located on a busy road with a 90km/h speed limit. There is a BP petrol station on the corner of Wellington Rd and Lysterfield Road that has toilets.

The Granite Peak Trail in Lysterfield Park offers a challenging route that both trail runners and walkers will enjoy.

Only hikers, trail runners, and walkers are permitted on the Granite Peak Trail. There are no mountain bikes allowed or dogs.

This 5-kilometer Grade 4-rated track rises 165 meters uphill through native forest along the path of the former granite quarry tramline to Trig Point Lookout. It is geared at the more daring or those seeking a challenge on a daily stroll (223m). While there are some stretches of difficult ground and a steep elevation, trekkers are rewarded with a breathtaking 360-degree view of Melbourne.

As I ascend further, the trail transforms into a challenging terrain, testing our physical endurance and mental resilience. While walking, be vigilant for kangaroos and echidnas along the way. I personally spotted a kangaroo just 100 meters away from the entrance on Wellington Rd.

Upon entering through the gate from Wellington Rd, continue in a straight path along the track and follow the sign indicating “Dargon Trk.” The track will be located on the left side and gradually ascend up the hill.

The path meanders through diverse terrains, including dense forests, open grasslands, and rocky outcrops.
