On the 4th October 2024 after driving up along the coast from Sydney our next stop was Lake Haven which was a 1 hour and 25 minutes by car from Sydney. On our roadtrip up to Queensland we were only ever driving 1-2 hours each day to our next accomodation for the night as there were lots of places to see along the way. Here are the places we stopped at Grotto Point Lighthouse, Sydney Harbour National Park Fairfax loop walk and Tea Tree and Cole’s Lookouts at North Curl Curl and our last stop for the day was Middle Creek Reserve. After arriving at our accomodation and unpacking for the night, we were talking to the owner of the Airbnb that we were staying at about where the best place to watch the sunset and she recommended Canton Beach, where the sun sets over the lake which made for aamzing sunet photos and videos, check out my photos below. Form Lake Haven it was only 13 minute drive to Canton beach. Every Airbnb that we stayed at on this 2 and a half week roadtrip up to Queensland we always asked the owners what the best places were around the area that were worth checking out and where to watch the sunset.
Discover Canton Beach: A Tranquil Haven in New South Wales, Australia

Overlooking the calm waters of Tuggerah Lake, this coastal gem offers a relaxing escape with plenty of opportunities for outdoor adventures and leisurely activities.
Natural Beauty and Relaxation
Canton Beach is renowned for its peaceful atmosphere, making it an ideal spot to unwind and recharge. The area boasts picturesque views of Tuggerah Lake, where shimmering waters meet lush greenery, creating a perfect setting for picnics or quiet contemplation. Bring a book, spread out a blanket, and soak in the serenity as the gentle lake breeze washes over you.
We arrived at Canton beach at 5:19pm after unpacking for the night, we always get to a sunset location an hour before the sun fully goes down. I love watching the light change the area especially ones over water with the reflection in the water. Clouds definitely make sunset’s better as the clouds light up from behind and can be a orange or pink colour. We were very lucky to get the perfect sunset at Canton Beach.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to stay here and enjoy this amazing view?

I recomend taking a warm jacket, beanie and warm gloves with you to watching the sunset as it can get cold and sometimes windy while wacthing the beautiful sunset. The day we wacthed the sunset was spring time in Australia and it was colder. It was also school holidays for New South Wales but there weren’t many people around who were interested in watching the sunset.

I would love to come back here as there is lots to explore.
