We chose to stay at Lake Cathie on our 7th night on our road trip up to Queensland for a wedding. We chose Saltwater Apartments accommodation because it was right opposite the beach and on a quiet road, it’s on the corner of “Illaroo Road and Bundella Avenue”. They have a swimming pool and spa it was too cold to swim when we stayed and only 8 apartments so it’s not crowded our one was on the bottom level right next to the swimming pool with our own car park and deck with chairs that you could sit and relax on. The apartment had double glazed windows because you couldn’t hear the ocean or any noise and there was an inlet for kids to swim in.
After we unpacked we went across the road to check out the beach at 4:40pm then we came back and ate dinner so we could go and check out the sunset. We drove to Jabiru Reserve if you turn left onto “Bundella Avenue” from the Saltwater Apartments and follow the road till the end it does change name to “Aqua Crescent” and then turn right onto “Ocean Drive” and cross over the bridge. Then turn left into the first street on the left hand side called “Evans Street” then on the left there will be a dirt road that has a carpark, picnic table, BBQ facilities and a table with water taps on it to the wash and gut the fish you have caught for the day with a bin right next to the table. It was amazing watching the sunset over the water at Cathie Creek. I highly recommend watching a sunset here, we were lucky to see a man gutting the fish he had caught and a group of pelicans turned up to eat the scraps, you will see in the photos below we got some really good sunset pictures with pelicans in the picture.
It says on google maps that there is a Lake Cathie Foreshore Reserve with a playground just past “Evans Street” on “Ocean Drive” on the right hand side of the road that is good for young kids and families
The next morning don’t forget to check out the sunrise in the morning along the beach right opposite the accommodation.

I loved staying here and it is opposite the beach and has a pool and spa.

We were lucky that the pelicans turned up on the 7th October 2024 to eat the leftovers from the the fishermen and it made for amazing photos. I recomend getting here an hour before sunset to get the best experience and photos.
We always stay until the sun has completely set and its dark and are always the last ones to leave.
