After viisiting Boomerang Beach, Elizabeth Beach, Seven Mile Beach on our 7th day of our road trip up to Queensland, our next stop was Cape Hawke Lookout in Booti Booti National Park, the walk was a 30 minute return trip with a grade rating of 3 because it was winding up the hill to the tower lookout, do not climb up the tower during storms, there were a lot of kids walking up the hill with their parents with a few seats along the track.

The name “Booti Booti” comes from the local Gathang language, meaning “lots of honey,” and the national park is situated on the traditional lands of the Worimi people. Cape Hawke is the highest point along the coastline, stretching from Newcastle in the south to North Brother Mountain at Laurieton in the north. Captain James Cook gave it its European name when he passed by in 1770 aboard the Endeavour as he journeyed up the east coast

The Changing Landscape of Cape Hawke
Over the years, the vegetation in Cape Hawke has undergone significant changes. In the 1970s, much of the area was covered in lantana, but native rainforest regeneration has been rapid. Today, many of the trees in this littoral rainforest reach 15-20 meters high. Littoral rainforest is a critically endangered ecological community, with only 1300 hectares left in NSW.
