Agnes Falls Scenic Reserve is located 196 km southeast of Melbourne. You can reach Agnes Falls from the South Gippsland Highway at Toora by following Silcocks Hill Road, or from Welshpool via Slade Hill Road and Hazel Park Road.
Standing at 59 meters, Agnes Falls is the highest single span waterfall in Victoria.
A couple of days before our Wilson Promontory weekend away, there was a big storm which meant the Agnes Falls had more water flowing than usual, which was awesome for photos and videos. We had the Falls to ourselves for most of the time, there were only a couple of people that stopped and had a look. I was very surprised that there weren’t more people there.
Agnes Falls Walks and Views
A short 200-meter walking track leads from the car park to a viewing area overlooking the falls. Along the way, keep an eye out for birds darting between bushes and enjoy the diverse vegetation. Benches are provided along the path, offering a chance to rest and take in the views within the gorge.
Agnes Falls Flora and Fauna
The Agnes Falls Scenic Reserve preserves a small remnant of the forests that once blanketed the Strzelecki Ranges. Within the sheltered gorge and along the Agnes River, you’ll find tall Southern Blue Gums alongside Blackwood and Silver Wattles. The cool, moist conditions support a diverse understorey of Hazel Pomaderris, Blanket-Leaf, Dogwood, Prickly Moses, Clematis, and various ferns.
The drier, north-facing slopes and ridges feature an open understorey of native grasses and sedges.
Agnes Falls Birdlife
This reserve provides a habitat for many bird species. The tall eucalypt canopy offers food and nesting sites for various birds, including honeyeaters. The understorey of tall shrubs and small trees is home to the Eastern Yellow Robin. Look out for the Grey Fantail, which can be seen playfully darting and spiraling through the trees in search of food. The forest also resonates with the calls of the Laughing Kookaburra, Currawong, and Crimson Rosella.

Tarra Bulga National Park
It’s lush. It’s green. It’s one of the most captivating places you’ll find, unlike anywhere else in Victoria.
This small pocket of cool temperate rainforest is one of the last remaining in the state. In this enchanting land, it feels like you’ve unknowingly taken the “Drink Me” potion: walking trails are dwarfed by giant ferns and towering mountain ash trees. Ancient myrtle beech fronds stretch across the path, forming an emerald canopy pierced by thin shafts of sunlight.
Breathe in the fresh, sweet scent of the rich, chocolatey soil underfoot, accompanied by the soundtrack of trickling streams and the distant call of a lyrebird.
