1 – Wellington Point
This is a fantastic way to entertain kids because it’s free and offers an easy walk out to the island. You don’t even have to walk all the way to the island; you can just make sandcastles in the sand. Surrounding the area are toilets and a playground that encircle a 90-year-old Moreton Bay fig tree. There’s also a cafe if you want to grab food and drinks, and a patrolled swimming area during summer. It’s a great spot for fishing with boat access and kayaking. Additionally, there’s trailer parking with a launching ramp for small open aluminum boats.
Wellington Point is a picturesque coastal suburb located in the Redland City region of Queensland, Australia. Renowned for its scenic beauty, Wellington Point offers stunning views of Moreton Bay, particularly from its iconic Wellington Point Reserve, a popular spot for picnics, barbecues, and family outings. The reserve features a sandy beach, playgrounds, and a jetty perfect for fishing and boating. At low tide, visitors can walk across the sandbar to King Island, an adventure that adds a unique charm to this serene destination. With its lush parks, vibrant marine life, and tranquil ambiance, Wellington Point is a beloved destination for both locals and tourists seeking a relaxing escape by the water.
I recommend driving to Wellington Point, when it is low tide you can walk out on the sand bars to King Island. I would recommend taking thongs or shoes because when I walked out there it was hard to walk barefoot with brittle/rocky sand. I would also take a change of clothes and towels.

The photos below are at low tide.
The photos below capture the walk along the sand bar out to King Island.
These photos are taken on King Island and the walk over to the island.
On August 2, 2022, I revisited Wellington Point after stopping at Wynnum to compare the low tide experience. It’s a very popular spot on weekends and sunny days. Both visits offered perfect weather for taking photos.
In the photo below behind the tree is King Island in the background.
2 – Wynnum
Wynnum, a charming bayside suburb in Brisbane, offers a relaxed coastal atmosphere perfect for families and visitors. Known for its beautiful waterfront esplanade, Wynnum features attractions such as the Wynnum Wading Pool, a heritage-listed tidal pool that’s great for a refreshing dip. The area also boasts scenic parks, picnic spots, and playgrounds, making it ideal for leisurely strolls and family outings. With its vibrant local markets, quaint cafes, and the picturesque Wynnum Jetty, this suburb provides a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life while still being conveniently close to Brisbane’s city center
There is a nice wide footpath that goes along the coast. During summer check out the Wynnum Wading Pool, where they let sea water into the wading pool, its only open during summer and is free. There is also a park that has a nautical theme for kids next to the wading pool, there is also a waterpark, with toilets and BBQ facilities.
The foreshore is the perfect place to go for a run, walk, or bike ride as it is 6km long, it starts at Wynnum Mangrove Boardwalk and finishes at Manly Boat Harbour and Marina.
On Sundays there is a Manly Creative Market that has gardening, clothing, jewellery, food and drink stalls.

I walked along the footpath that is right next to the water. This is what the views look like in the photos above and below. It was a nice sunny winters day. There is a concrete jetty that you can walk out on.
3 – Cleveland Point
Cleveland Point, located in the scenic Redland Bay area, is a popular destination known for its stunning coastal views and historical significance. This picturesque spot features the iconic Cleveland Point Lighthouse, a heritage-listed structure that has guided ships safely since the mid-19th century. The area offers a variety of recreational activities, including fishing, picnicking, and walking along the scenic pathways that wrap around the point. The adjacent parkland is perfect for families, with playgrounds and barbecue facilities. With its serene atmosphere and captivating sunsets, Cleveland Point provides a peaceful retreat and a glimpse into the maritime history of the region.
On my drive, I visited Wynnum first as it was the furthest away, followed by Wellington Point, Cleveland Point, and finally Victoria Point.
Cleveland Point, encircled by water, boasts a nautical-themed playground featuring a small shipwrecked boat, swings, a climbing structure resembling an egg, and a sandy area with a giant turtle for kids to play on.
A wide concrete path runs around the park’s perimeter right next to the water, with covered seating areas equipped with electric BBQs. Benches line the path, perfect for enjoying the views while eating fish and chips or ice cream. The park also offers drinking fountains, toilets, a boat ramp, and ample parking.
The Lighthouse Restaurant is situated right at the point, offering both dine-in and takeaway options.
Cleveland Point is an excellent destination for everyone, as it is free and accessible for prams and wheelchairs, making it a great place to take the kids on weekends.
The photos below were taken in winter, at the end of July and the beginning of August 2022. The day I visited, it was low tide with perfect blue skies.

Victoria Point is an ideal destination for swimming, walking, and cycling, with numerous parks and esplanades accommodating plenty of visitors. The best spot for a swim is Thompson’s Beach, which is also perfect for paddle-boarding. On a hot day, it becomes a popular location for cooling off. You can drive right up to the top or do what I did and park at Gertrude Petty Place-Mt Gravatt Conservation at the bottom of the mountain and walk up Mount Gravatt Outlook Drive until you reach the sign that says Summit Track
The photos below are of the track which is really rocky, steep and uneven, Be careful walking down from the lookout because it is easy to slip on the rocks, it is better to walk slowly going up and down and to stop regularly for breaks.
The pictures below are at the top of Mt Gravatt.
6 – Mt Coot-Tha lookout
Mt Coot-Tha Lookout offers one of Brisbane’s most iconic panoramic views, making it a must-visit destination for locals and tourists alike. Situated at the summit of Mt Coot-Tha, just a short drive from the city center, the lookout provides breathtaking views of Brisbane’s skyline, the winding Brisbane River, and the lush greenery of the surrounding forests. Visitors can enjoy the vista from multiple viewing platforms and take in the beauty of the sunset or city lights after dusk. The lookout is complemented by the Mt Coot-Tha Botanic Gardens nearby, making it an ideal spot for a day trip filled with natural beauty and scenic landscapes.
The facility includes a gift shop, restrooms, a restaurant, and a café serving food and drinks, making it a family-friendly destination.
